Visiting Cartagena – Port City in Colombia

My daughter, Ciara, and I visited Cartagena, Colombia this July with Cox and Kings. What a beautiful city, and a beautiful country.

We stayed at the beautiful Sofitel Santa Clara, and really enjoyed our pampering!  And we enjoyed touring Cartagena and seeing where the Pacific meets the Atlantic.

Here is an overview of our couple of days in Cartagena. We met our guide after breakfast this morning to visit the most important monuments of Cartagena. We began at La Popa, the Convent of Candelaria. From there we had a view of the city of Cartagena and the bay.

We continued to San Felipe Fort built to protect the city from pirates. After touring this unique fortress, we visited “Las Bóvedas” the historic dungeons that are now filled with shops and craft stores.

And we finally visited the Plaza San Pedro Claver, named after the Spanish monk the “patron saint of slaves” who dedicated his mission to serving the African slaves in Colombia.

We loved Cartagena. And – were especially enamoured with the horse drawn carriage ride!
