Here are some basic facts about NZ geography and population to whet your appetite.
Did you know?
*New Zealand is made up of two main islands: the North Island and the South Island, plus Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands.
*With an area of approximately 270,500 square km, New Zealand is roughly the size of Japan, Britain, or Colorado.
*Only 4.5 million people live in NZ, so there’s plenty of wide open space to roam and explore.
*Three quarters of the population live on the North Island.
*New Zealand has mild temperatures and many hours of sunshine. The average NZ temperature decreases as you travel south.
*January and February are the warmest months, and July is the coldest month.
*In summer, the average maximum temperatures range from 20-30 C, and in winter, between 10-15 C.
